SAVE MCS!!

Detroit city council has voted to tear down Michigan Central Station

Detroit City Council has given the owner 30 days to propose a plan for development of the building or front the bill for demolition.

Tragic

  1. Wait, so they're applying for stimulus money to tear down the building? Ugh, terrible!!

I have a feeling they won't get the stimulus money they plan on receiving and the city will abandon the project after having spent the money themselves to hastily demolish the station. This will of course leave a much more pleasant field of rubble in its place. (sarcasm)

  3. This is the most depressing piece of news this year. Let's hope that they're too disorganized to figure out where the two million in demolition funds will come from. Tearing buildings down costs money too. As for the homeless man found frozen in a block of ice in the station, it seems probable that the train station was not the problem in his death (as the Windsor star article seems to suggest). This proposal to tear down Michigan Central Station has to be the most asinine waste of money ever.

  4. the frozen man was actually next door the abandoned DPS building.

i wrote detroit city council respectfully expressing that detroits problems are social and tearing MCS will accomplish nothing, along with many other concerns and positives about the building... yet have received no response.. not surprised
